PERSONALITY TRAITS OF THE
MOST SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISEES'
BE A TEAM PLAYER
You may be the boss but are you willing to pitch in wherever help is needed? Are you flexible and able to adapt quickly? Are you optimistic? Are you resilient, able to keep setbacks in perspective? Are you coachable? Being reliable, displaying good judgment, willing to learn, willing to delegate and willing to ask for help are skills important for success.
FOLLOW THE RULES
People who are used to following systems and processes are good candidates for franchising. Are you willing to follow an operations manual? Are you comfortable taking feedback? Middle managers in large corporations, people who have worked in sales and marketing, and people with military backgrounds do well. Past experience in the restaurant business is not mandatory, but extremely helpful.
BE A PEOPLE PERSON
Can you effectively communicate ideas and directions in a friendly way? Are you an active listener? Can you comfortably resolve conflicts? Can you set goals and inspire your team to meet and exceed them? An optimistic outlook and ability to build morale is essential to your success.
COMMIT TO HARD WORK
Starting a new business is really hard work. A good franchise owner knows that possibly working long hours and pitching in to do the small jobs will pay off in the long run. A great business is built over time by creating an incredible experience for your customers one at a time. It requires patience and persistence to see the results you hope for.
HAVE STRONG LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Are you confident and decisive? Are you organized and focused? Do you usually take charge in work settings? Do others naturally follow your lead? Those are leadership basics, but great leaders go even further. Empathy is important. Do you genuinely care about your team? Strong leaders praise team members in public and address problems in private. And most importantly, they inspire others to do their best.
BE FINANCIALLY STABLE
Do you have the financial resources to support yourself through the build out and operations of your business? You will want to understand how much you will need to live per month. In addition to your business investment, preparation up front pays high dividends later in the process.
CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUSED
Do you put your customer’s needs before your own? Your goal may be to make a lot of money, but you can never forget that keeping your customers happy is the key for success.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO TAKE RISKS
Any new business requires an entrepreneur heart and it is not for those who are very risk adverse. Proven systems help ease the adversity, but an entrepreneurial spirit is a must.
PASSION FOR THE BRAND
Our most successful franchisees are excited about Samurai Sam’s Teriyaki Grill® brand. They promote the brand in the community and strongly believe in the service and menu items they offer.
MOST IMPORTANTLY...
It’s most important to have realistic expectations. The most successful and best franchisees recognize that the initial start-up phase takes long hours and hard work. However, you are in control of your own destiny and the buck stops with you.
